Sweet Briar College Will Remain Open

Sweet Briar College’s alumnae has reached an agreement that will keep their college open at least one more year.  So much for the “we have no choice” argument.  “Saving Sweet Briar’s ability to raise significant funds in a short period of time without the benefit of an established fundraising system is a testimonial to the tenacity of the alumnae. “The strength of faith the alumnae have demonstrated in their college is extraordinary, and will stand the college in good stead in the future. . . ”

There is no reason why SMWC Alumnae cannot have the same outcome.

62 SMWC Alumnae Submit Letter in Opposition to Co-Ed Announcement

Today, 62 SMWC alumnae, graduating in classes from 1951 to 2015, submitted this letter to the Terre Haute Tribune Star and Indianapolis Star, opposing the College’s co-ed announcement.

The letter calls for the College to reconsider its decision, stating, “We, the undersigned, believe that if going co-ed truly is the correct and only path for the future of Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College, then that decision and all the positions for and against should have been presented to those who have a vested interest in the College. To disregard the opinions and input from committed, highly qualified Alumnae is inexcusable.”

This letter is the launch of our campaign to reverse the College’s co-ed decision.  As shown by the signatures to this letter, our efforts are supported by successful women spanning three generations of SMWC alumnae.  The plan of action is coming together!   Stay tuned for more details about how you can help not only reverse the College’s decision, but also ensure that Saint Mary-of-the-Woods remains a vibrant, growing women’s college for generations to come.
